The impact of hot, nutritious food
At H4TH we know that whilst providing a hot, nutritious meal to someone experiencing homelessness may address their immediate hunger, it also plays a crucial role in promoting their overall health and well-being.
Shoshana Gilmore, Founder and Chair said: “Over the seven years that we’ve been coming into central London we’ve listened to the experiences and daily struggles of many people rough sleeping on the streets and know that access to healthy food options is often limited.
She added: We’ve learned that the meals we prepare and the hot drinks and snacks we hand out have a positive impact on their physical and mental well-being. Food has the power to evoke feelings of comfort, stability, and happiness. By providing a warm and nutritious meal, we offer a momentary respite from the challenges of homelessness and create a sense of normalcy and stability in their lives.”
This week our wonderful team of food prep volunteers were supported by members of IBNG Networking Group. Together they helped prepare 30+ burgers, 30+ hot dogs, 15 chicken, mashed potato and vegetable meals, 15 turkey, mashed potato and vegetable meals, soup, 30 filled jacket potatoes, 15 Vegan cottage pies, and cheese sandwiches. We also handed out more sandwiches, pastries and cakes donated by Wenzel’s, Radlett. All this food and more was handed out last night by our fantastic team of volunteers.
Angela, who helped for the first time yesterday, said: “I had the pleasure of helping yesterday afternoon with the food prep. You guys do an amazing job. I’m in awe of what you do and will be volunteering again.”
